Announcing $1,000 donation to Asset Builders of America, Inc.

For the second consecutive year the CFA Society of Madison has donated $1,000 to Asset Builders of America, Inc in support of the Second-annual Madison Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl (FICB).  The FICB helps achieve the Society’s goal of increasing public awareness of the CFA brand and serves an important community service purpose. Asset Builders’ mission is to promote financial education and wealth-building strategies to enhance the quality of life of low- and moderate-income youth, families, and communities. See www.assetbuilders.org.

The FICB is a semester-long study program for high school students, teaching the basics of investing with additional content on economics, credit, and general personal finance topics. Participants form teams of four students under the supervision of an adult coach and visit www.ficbonline.org to study and take practice quizzes. The program culminates in a live, college-bowl-format competition, complete with a buzzer system, celebrity moderator, and panel of judges.

The FICB combines education with activities that appeal to youth – the competition and team dynamics inherent in any quiz contest – and we offer attractive incentives for students to participate and excel. The FICB is an effective strategy to supplement instruction in personal finance that may be occurring in the classroom, and also is an excellent way to teach basic concepts to students who are not already learning these topics in school. FICB participants are positive role models for other area students and the program helps raise awareness of the need to increase knowledge of financial literacy basics in the community in general.

The 2010 Madison Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl will be held on January 13 at Grainger Hall at the UW School of Business.  If you would like to support the event as a judge or spectator please contact Richard Entenmann, CFA at 608-663-6332 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. CFA Society of Madison Sponsors Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl

First-ever Madison Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl

A team of students from East High School, including Riley Jones, Brooke Raimon, Carissa Reedy, Neil Robmann and Mai Cheng Yang, took first place and the traveling trophy at the first annual Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl in Madison last month.

The Bowl, a program of Madison-based Asset Builders of America Inc., was designed as an interactive way to teach high school students personal finance, economics, entrepreneurship and investing.

Nine teams of three or four students each from East, La Follette and Memorial prepared by studying materials on different types of money management.  The competition employed a "college bowl" format, and took place at the UW-Madison Business School - affording the high school students the opportunity to spend the day in a collegiate academic setting.

The Madison event was sponsored by Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation, the CFA Society of Madison, Madison South Rotary Foundation, Lincoln Financial, American Family Insurance Company, Madison Metropolitan School District, UW-Madison, and Culvers-Todd Drive.
